Friday, 22nd July 2016

9.30am to 12.00pm

This is an opportunity for new families joining our group to meet the staff and other parents at our setting in Westfield Cricket Club.

We hope you will be able to come and meet us and view the main play room and lovely field at our setting.  If you are not able to attend the Open Morning but interested in our group, please ring the above number before 17th July or after 7th September to arrange an appointment.

A Bee visit

A sealed hive

Lorraine from Surrey Bees brought a sealed hive for the group to see the Queen bee and to watch how the other bees gather and move around her

A real bee (but dead)

The bee was passed around the group so that the children could see a bee close-up without being harmed.  One child asked why it was dead and Lorraine explained that the weather had been too cold for it.

The pieces of waxy honeycomb were passed around for the children to feel and smell.  Some realised that the sticky parts were sweet and tasty.

Lorraine read a story to the group.

After seeing the bees and reading a story, the children coloured in some bee pictures and then had an opportunity to taste some delicious honey.

Thank you to Lorraine from Surrey Bees for bringing these interesting creatures and activities for the children to experience.
